Okay so I woke up this morning and decided to make my usual visit to the Google Playstore. I realized that the featured apps on the homepage had been updated. One of the featured apps was Umano. I quickly looked into this application and even though it wasn’t exactly right up my alley, I couldn’t resist downloading it and adding it to the list of the apps of my phone after reading what the app had to offer. In a nutshell, it is an app that allows you to listen to your favorite news articles instead of having to read them yourself. But there is much more to it. Umano implemented this fresh idea using its team of voice actors who recorded the readings of popular articles from the internet and created kind of a podcast directory for you that can be used on the go. There hasn’t been any app of its kind in my knowledge. Lets look into the details and see how the app can be used.
The first thing Umano will ask you to do is Sign Up for an account. The account is beneficial because it allows you to create your own playlists and add the articles of your interests to them. But even if you do not wish to create an account, you can still use the app without much restrictions. The creation of a playlist will be useful to you when you want to listen to the articles when you do not have the facility of a wi-fi in the vicinity and are offline. You can even log in using your Facebook account.
So, here we are now. I created an account of my own. You can progress the same way or without creating an account, whatever way you’d prefer. This is the home screen. On the right side, you will be able to access plenty of different news articles or featured articles. On the left side you will see different menus as you can see in the picture above and as it suggests, you can browse by your interests. Browsing through “Popular” articles will display the trending articles that other users are listening to.
All you need to do to listen to n article is to tap on it. The article’s text will open up and the recording of it being read out will play instantly as well. If you notice the picture above, you will see that right below the title of the article, you see the name of the website on which the article originally appears and a link to the article. The articles can also be shared directly from Umano to your social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter etc.
The next step is adding your favorite articles to your playlist. Remember, this feature is for those who chose to Sign Up and create an account. If you wish to avail this feature, you can always go back and create your own account. In order to add the articles to your playlist, all you need to do is to tap and hold on to the article that you wish to add.
When you add articles to your playlist, you will get the option shown above upon visiting your playlist. You can turn the automatic download on whenever you add the articles to your playlist. It will download the audio and the contents of that particular article to your device.

Umano provides a fantastic listening experience for your favorite articles from the most popular sources that you might be able to find on the entire Internet.
