While reading reviews and discussions on the internet, I came to know that some people have the impression that the Android interface and home screens are dry and boring. Being an Android user myself, I beg to differ. Therefore, I have decided to write this post to help out all the Android users out there who would love to lighten up, customize and decorate their home screens with various widgets and other features. I will list down 5 of the top and well known apps that are known to achieve this purpose. So, lets get straight to the list without further ado.
1. Pattern Wallpapers

What better to start off with other than attractive wallpapers for your home screen? It is no secret that wallpapers add alot to the appearance of one’s device’s home screen. Whenever you are bored of your current wallpaper/background display, give Pattern Wallpapers a try. This app will provide you with plenty of amazing and eye catching patterns that you can keep as your home screen’s wallpaper. The app is available on the Google Playstore for free.
2. WP Clock

A home screen without an interactive clock would remain incomplete. WP Clock is not just any random clock widget that would be available on the Playstore. Besides time, it offers features like Date, your phone’s battery level and the Wi-Fi S SID (the name of the Wi-Fi network that you’d be connected to at the time). In addition to all that, you can customize the background colors and animations for this widget. Now that is a clock to have for your device’s home screen!
3. 3D Weather Widget

Now I don’t know if having a weather widget is entirely necessary for your home screen, decide it for yourself, but it is quite common among the people to have it for their devices. Right there above is a screen shot from my own personal Android device. This is a 3D widget that contains a digital clock, date, your location and system info in addition to having the weather forecast and the current temperature of your location. This is another free app that you can easily install on your device.
4. Embiggen

The name says it all. Embiggen is not a typical widget that would be placed on your home screens, it is an interesting feature/utility app. Okay, let me explain it using a scenario. You’re in a class, your teacher doesn’t tolerate any speaking or discussion during the class (I experience it all the time in my university). You can just type down what you have to say and embiggen will maximize the text as you can see in the screen shot above. You will only need to flash your screen to your friend to convey your message. Simple, but effective in some cases!
5. Beautiful Widgets

Lastly, Beautiful Widgets is an app that contains various widgets. You can use this app to download further features that can customize your home screen. It contains various clocks, weather widgets, themes among others. It holds the honors for being selected by Google as Android’s editor’s choice. It does have one drawback (one that every user fears). It costs $2.58. The reason I included it on my list is because it is said to be the first paid application to have reached 1 million downloads. So, it is for those who are willing to shell out some cash.
My list ends here. I hope that the apps that I have stated will be of use to our readers that use an Android device. Thankyou for reading!
